The Greek diet has long been touted as a healthy option, with olive oil, grilled meats and seafood, and plenty of spinach and aubergine.

Athena – Gare, Luxembourg City
Friendly service say reviewers and “the grilled meats are cooked to perfection, tender and juicy.” This is the dining establishment to come for authentic Greek food if you hail from the country or if you crave a taste from your holiday there. The interior is wooden floors, exposed whitewash brickwork and snazzy little tables with white cloths. There’s even a TV showing sandy beaches.
Tuck into starters of fried anchovies or calamari, puff pastry filled with feta, stuffed vine leaves and baked feta. Mains include fillet of chicken and lamb with feta and potatoes, souvlaki (grilled skewers of meat), gyros, or lamb with lemon and garlic baked in the oven. If you crave other traditional dishes there is moussaka, pastitsio, and kleftiko on the very long menu which includes vegetarian options. Got room left? Try galaktoboureko – filo pastry stuffed with semolina and honey, or baklava. Elasticated waistbands are obligatory.

Maison du Meze – Strassen
A big place, with simple wooden floors and tables, this restaurant alos has Greek taverna appeal. Fantastic seafood raves one diner, or food like grandma serves says another. Starters include Tirokafteri or spicy cheese, Giaourtlou, or beef and pork minced meat in tomato sauce topped with homemade yoghurt sauce, paprika and sweet boukovo flakes, and fried kefalotyri cheese.
Souvlaki, gyros, lamb ribs, and shrimps grace the main menu but there are veggie options and salads. You’ll also find Greek wines and Retsina.

Large portions and open on a Monday, reviewers praise the lamb chops, although reserve a table on the ground floor if you have a wheelchair user in your party.
Ambrosia means “food of the Gods” and you’re in for a treat from brothers George and Christos who opened the restaurant in 2011. There’s a huge choice of warm mezze including calamari but also spanakopita and fried courgettes served with tzatziki. As with the other places, grilled meats are the speciality, but you can also try moussaka, Cretan pasta, octopus and daurade. The dessert menu is peppered with the country’s specialities.
Yamas – Gare, Luxembourg City
A simple Greek tavern with wooden tables but plenty of charm. Reviewers praise the authenticity of the food, with one waxing lyrical that “the moussaka was rich and flavorful, with layers of tender eggplant, spiced ground meat, and a creamy bechamel sauce that melted in our mouths.” The friendly staff and welcoming ambience get a thumbs up too.
Tuck into other dishes including Bifteki served with feta, tzatziki, fries and salad, or grilled seabream fillet or squid, and Gemista – peppers stuffed with herb rice, The menu is staggeringly long, with plenty of vegetarian options. There’s a decent selection of Greek desserts too including the usual suspects like baklava but also walnut cake.

A fusion option this relatively new place is getting rave reviews from local residents and tourists, particularly for the authentic flavours of its Greek dishes. The concise menu includes sharing plates of souvlaki, halloumi or crispy feta, and vegetarians can try the Orzo pasta, which also comes with seafood.
Another plus is the lovely setting, central but light and airy, with arched windows and some circular tables available. Given its central location, prices are reasonable too.

If you’re looking for a swanky setting, with booths and a mezzanine dining area, then this Manso group Greek eatery fits the bill. One Greek reviewer praises the food, acknowledging it is “adapted to the palates of the region” and the warm ambience “with decorations inspired by Greek culture.” He also cites the service as exceptional.
Chef Mike Stavropoulos has designed a menu that takes you on a journey through Greece, starting with cocktails such as My Aegean Dream and Mykonos. Starters include lots of traditional dips such as tzatziki, hummus, and baba ghanoush, but you can also try hot starters such as spanakopita and grilled octopus. Mains include staples with a twist such as black pork souvlaki and kleftiko (slow-cooked lamb shoulder). There’s a good selection of fresh fish and desserts too.

A lovely cozy interior in Mondercange, and a fresher but basic one at Gare, for these self-service places which get rave reviews for the quality of food, and the service.
Tuck into haloumi or a Greek salad with chicken, and souvlaki served with pita and fries, plus red onions and sauces. Try chicken, pork or sausage, or cheese, or house specialities including Skepasti chicken gyros, served with salad in an open pita, with sides of tzatziki, spicy feta or fries covered in meat and cheese.

Outdoor seating makes this a great place for a warm weather pitstop. It’s got a fast-food style to it, and portions are large, and on the plus side, it’s open on 25 December if you have a craving for gyros that day. Tuck into pitas stuffed with various grilled meats and sides of roasted aubergine, stuffed vine leaves, and bean salad. There are veggie options too such as the falafel, and larger plates served with fries if you feel hungry. Prices are surprisingly low, with many stuffed pita options coming in at less than €10.
TSU Greek pies and pastries – old town, Luxembourg City
This small little eatery with a few places to sit inside and a nice patio, is the perfect place to grab a Greek-inspired pie or pastry, which reviewers say are “hot, crispy, with delicious fillings.” Choose between savoury treats like spanakopita or Santorini, or the signature tsureki sweet breads, served with craft coffee or lemonade. They also have a selection of vegan pies.
Grandpa’s Greek Souvlaki – old town, Luxembourg City
Pick and mix your fillings for a pitta wrap for €8 which you can eat in, take out or order for delivery. Reviewers rave about the freshness of the ingredients and the humour of chef Nicolas. Opt for chicken, pork, sausage or vegan falafel or you can order a souvlaki stick for just €4. At these prices you can also order a side of tzatziki or spicy feta.
