My neighbor was cleaning out their home and gifted me this. I don't know much about them but he mentioned it was originally made in Japan in the 80's and said that it was likely 40 years old. It seems to be in great condition other then an old crack that looks like it was sealed awhile back. It needs a new temperature gauge and a little WD-40 but other than that does this look legit?

It’s almost certainly not a Joe (their very old models were black and I think the company themselves only go back to 2009-ish)

But Kamado grills themselves go back over 2000 years and the fundamentals are still the same. Give it a clean, a new gasket and any other parts it needs and it should be good to go

I think it’s a “Kamado” brand (not affiliated). But as others have mentioned these grills go back ages.

That looks like an Imperial Kamado. They are made out of terracotta or some other clay.

Old Kamado. But not a “Joe”

def worth cleaning up, branding means not. looks like a well made piece for sure!
