nope you are not the only one. I have been using this for five years
M0ck_duck
Those are definitely not out of the ordinary.
Longjumping_Fuel_192
Dumb question: I want one of these for my home kitchen, where am I buying the tape from?
HighburyHero
Started seeing these in kitchens about 10-12 years ago. Been in every kitchen I’ve worked in since.
FuzzyPandaVK
is that painter’s tape?
FoTweezy
We definitely use these.
Hackmore_Lungblood
Yes, I buy Perforated Dissolving Labels. No more tape gunk.
MarbleGrove
I used one at the last line cook job I had, I didnt realize I was cutting open my thumb on it everytime I was trying to get a clean rip..
fancycar123
i use scissors.
Darth_Gravid_
I worked in a kitchen that used one…
I would remove the roll so I could write directly on it, and not have to guess how long it needed to be.

I have 3. They all serve valuable purposes

Shiiit! Your even has a pen/Sharpie holder in the back corner, think of all the seconds you’ll save in a shift.

Changing the game I see

I use the tape but not on a.. holder.
I Hate those ‘dissolvable’ labels. Tape is so much easier. Label it, initial, date. Done. And very easy to peel off.
Secret-Tackle8040
Been using them for years. It’s the ultimate pro move.
GSturges
Impressive you still have the holder. Everyplace I’ve worked, it was hung with butchers twine
laffe66
What is this even?
Dagg3rface
I call mine Marie Kondo because it sparks joy. Seriously, I love mine with a burning passion. It has a permanent home and I don’t have to search all over the kitchen for a single one of the SEVENTY TWO FUCKING ROLLS THAT ARE PLAYING HIDE AND SEEK EVERY GODDAMNED DAY.
Chefbigandtall
Love those. Hate the blue tape. Can’t see shit in the walk in lol.
DAMONSIPICH
yes
kay_rah
They last in the pastry department, but everything lasts longer in the pastry dept because we take care of our shit. I loved mine so much I bought one for my house.
Different-Bag-8217
What’s that? Blue tape is so expensive. I know its non stick ect but also 3x the price.
tastyamnion
I cut the tape while it’s still on the roll. If you cut through a few layers, you can just pull sections of pre-cut tape.

It bothers me how they cut the tape in The Bear….
Buying_Boots
Oh hey that’s my favorite paperweight when doing counts for the day

Made my boss order one when I started. So much faster to not have to pick at the tape roll with greasy or wet hands.

It lasts a few weeks. Someone loses the center piece. No one cleans it. Someone broke the teeth. Etc.. I just carry little scissors with me.🤷♂️
In my entire career I had never seen one of those in any kitchen ever.
[I printed myself some of these](https://www.reddit.com/r/functionalprint/s/5m3ATQFa3y) and they’ve been a game changer around my shop
