I don’t mind if it’s actually what the meal was cooked in–the only problem is making sure the handle doesn’t hit somebody’s drink.

The handle is something to watch out for. Otherwise it’s fine.

It’s still bad of course, awkward and the handle is in the way and the fact that it’s probably hot enough to burn you is pretty bad and cutlery on that surface is going to be terrible. But at least in the realm of pans as serving vessels it won’t cool down your food by the time it reaches the table.
What’s personally infuriating about seeing this is that I can also see the plates that the others at the table have would have been perfectly suited for this dish.
