It’s a middle eastern dish that combines beef, rice, herbs, and spices wrapped in onion layers and baked in a tomato broth. Worth making and isn’t as hard as it looks 🙂

    Recipe:

    Ingredients:
    * 2 or 3 XL or XXL onions
    * 1 small onion
    * Parsley
    * Mint
    * Garlic (4 cloves)
    * Tomato paste (4 tbsp)
    * Ground beef or lamb
    * Chili flakes
    * 3/4 cup soaked rice
    * Pomegranate molasses: sub balsamic vinegar, honey, and lemon mix
    * 3 cups water or broth

    Directions:

    1. Cut the top and bottoms off of the XL onions and peel them. Don’t cut them in half, make a quarter slice from the outside to the middle.
    2. Boil for 15 minutes
    3. In a separate bowl combine:
    * 1 Finely diced small onion
    * Chopped parsley and mint
    * Minced garlic
    * Tomato paste
    * Raw ground beef or lamb
    * Soaked and drained rice
    * Chili flakes
    * Olive oil
    * Salt
    * Pepper

    4. After onions are done boiling, carefully pull each layer of onion off without burning yourself.
    5. Take a spoon full of meat and rice mixture and wrap it in an onion layer.
    6. Place in an oiled baking dish

    7. Combine:
    * Pomegranate molasses(or substitute)
    * Tomato paste
    * Garlic
    * Salt
    * Pepper
    * 2 1/2 to 3 cups of water or broth

    8. Pour mixture over stuffed onions, cover with aluminum foils and bake at 425* for 1 hour then uncover and bake for 30 more.
