1. To make the buns: In a medium bowl, combine the milk, butter, sugar, salt, yeast, and enough food coloring to give you a nice robust red color. 2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Turn the dough out of the bowl and divide into 12 equal portions. Loosely roll each of these into a smooth ball and set on the prepared baking sheet. Cover and let the dough begin to rise again while you make the topping.
3. To make the topping: Whisk together all the ingredients in a small bowl until smooth. Set aside and let rise, along with the rolls, for about 20 minutes. Then, using a pastry brush, brush a thick layer of the topping onto each roll, covering as much as possible. Preheat the oven to 400°F and let the rolls rise another 20 minutes.
4. When ready, bake the rolls for 15 to 20 minutes, until puffed and firm to the touch. Let cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
