Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland, Australia, about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online, so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

  1. Corn, beans, and pumpkin are part of the three sisters crops. Each one helps the other grow. You can put them all in one bed or mound. Corn goes first. When he reaches about a foot tall, plant the beans. They will use the corn as a trellis and grow up that instead of needing something separate. Pumpkin is started after the beans start to climb the corn. They’re a huge food provider, but their biggest help is ground cover. It shades out weeds and helps retain moisture in the soil. Together they make complete meals. If you’re careful you can even keep the corn husks for tamales!

  2. BSG: We can’t figure out how to make PMCs, Bosses, and Scavs see eachother as enemies in PvE

Also BSG: You should trust us that we are competent enough to not make a mess of this highly complex boss.

  3. I’ve successfully grown tomatoes, wild kidney beans, pumpkins and sweet potatoes.

But normal potatoes just seem to rot without even sprouting and my attempts at corn seem good at first, but as soon as they look like a wheat stalk they instantly wither away.

  4. I agree with all these except corn, which is nitrogen expensive. I would replace corn with beets because the whole beet plant is edible. The green tops are especially good when young.

  5. I started this year building 4 raised beds and grew zucchini tomatoes, potatoes, beans, peppers, and basil. They were some of the best tasteing vegetables I've had

  6. I don't know why but the shorts and boots reminded me of Steve Irwin here and got me right choked up.
I watched him all the time when I was a boy and loved his show so much.
He passed on my birthday in 2006 when I turned 9.
I'll be thirty soon, watching your channel gives me a similar kind of enthusiasm and happiness that Steve used to.
Thank your for posting sir, you and your's are in my mother's prayers.
