Has anyone ever seen Gentleman’s Relish in the United States? Gentleman’s Relish is like a savory/salty paste of anchovies, herbs, & butter that is great on crackers or mixed into mayo and used as a condiment. If you like anchovies or sardines, you’ll love this.

A friend who visited England this past winter gave me a tin, and now I’m hooked – only problem is I can’t seem to find it anywhere in the states (at a reasonable price).

I haven’t seen it but it looks amazing. Maybe in an international grocery store?

I ate this years ago when I lived in the UK, but I haven’t found it here for a reasonable price. I do have a British Goods store nearby that may be able to order it. Maybe you have something similar near you? Amazon would like $17, which is too much for me.

I don’t usually condone purchasing from Amazon but… they have it…

When I was in college (in the U.S.), a guy I knew used to offer it to people working at our club. I’m sure it’s available on Amazon.

I will say as a Brit even here it’s a bit expensive for the small amount you get, not that 99.99% of the British population even know what it is mind.

Never seen this, but by its ingredients it sounds a lot like bagna cauda – butter + anchovies & garlic essentially. Not too hard to make and quite tasty

I’ve occasionally seen it in a posh, small deli type place but mostly in British stores. I ordered mine on Amazon last time and it was fresh with a long expiry date.

I eat mine on multigrain toast with kerrygold. Or add it to cheese on toast, between the toast and the cheese.

After looking through the site and the distributors that they have listed looks like the only way I can find to buy it is from Amazon. There’s something called the British corner shop that seemed promising but I don’t see any sort of tinned fish in their collection. Looks like Sainsbury’s had opened shops on east coast US but Albertsons bought them up. I’d say they seem to be about 5-7 pounds. So if you can find someone willing to ship a good amount it might be worth it financially. But Amazon seems to be the best choice for this as of now. Also maybe shoot an email to Rainbow Tomatoes Garden. I’m seeing that he might not have any UK products as of now. Lastly and probably the least expensive, I googled gentleman’s relish recipes and a few came up. Good luck! 🐟

It sounds pretty tasty, but wow that product name sounds like a euphemism for something I don’t want to eat.

    Never seen that before.

Gave me an interesting idea, though. I bought these Mediterranean style anchovies from my local Italian market, couldn’t think of what to do with them. They’re not canned, they’re in a sealed plastic container and kept in the fridge. I think I’ll make a compound butter out of them. Maybe I’ll use it on steak or in a baked potato. Thanks.

If anyone tries to offer me some Gentleman’s Relish, I’m knocking them the fuck out. That’s got worse branding than spotted dick.

You’ll forgive me for thinking it was kief in a grinder because that straight up looks like kief in a grinder

    Gentlemen’s relish sounds very suggestive

I’d like to pack a lip with some of that. If they add some nicotine this could be a daily dipper.

Sounds a lot like fish pate. I’ve only seen tuna pate though.

Wow the recipe is bizzare!!! Nutmeg?? Cinnamon?

  19. lazylittlelady

I find it a bit too salty. You can DIY to taste; I think it’s nice on hot toast but just a bit like marmite

I make my own, if you do a search, I believe I posted my recipe
