If it’s cast iron then scrape off the loose stuff, brush or spray with veg oil, fire it up, repeat after each cook and/or as necessary.

I mean you’ll probably spent more time, money, and effort to fix it. I’d replace it for one off Amazon or marketplace.

Try cleaning it up. Rust is probably surface level. Scrap it down with wire brush. Rinse and dry it to remove any remaining metal shavings. If it looks good then put it on the grill for hot. Once it’s dry add a light coat of oil and let it cool.

If you have an air compressor and a beach nearby… scoop up some sand and blast it. Season it. Better than new. Also, store it inside in a paper bag or cardboard box. Clean it after use and oil it, leave it in the grill as it cools down.

Almost certainly salvageable. Scrape all the loose rust off, cover it in some rapeseed/canola oil and run hot while it smokes off. Repeat until you have a nice black finish and again every so often as maintenance. Store inside if you can and not outside with the Kamado to keep it rust free for longer. Look up the process to season and maintain a cast iron skillet it’s the same thing.
