  1. If you want to cook your food over rusty car parts and construction debris, stock up on these.

  2. Abe_Bettik

You’ll find occasional rocks in the bag.

I’d stock up for that price, personally.

  3. NiptonIceTea

Last few bags I’ve bought had at least six pieces of either screws, nails, metal strips, concrete and/or limestone. Then noticed a few pieces of carbonized floor molding.

    I moved onto B&B.

I use it for general grilling. Great for burgers, steaks, and pizza. Not as good for long low and slow cooks. It seems to burn up a little fast. As far as the trash in the bag, I haven’t noticed any more trash in RO than any other brand. My personal preference is B&B. but I will use this in a pinch.

  5. Sea_Progress9628

I’ve seen enough composite decking and steel fasteners mixed in to never touch this junk

  6. lilbobbigumdrops

My last three bags looked like construction debris

  7. Responsible_Ask_1243

I prefer the royal oak briquettes. Others have pointed out low quality wood on the lumps but I never really inspected it. Don’t like the way the lumps burn.

  8. WillShattuck

Some people like it. Others don’t. I prefer Kingsford for its consistency.

If you get a good bag, flavor is fine, but the smoke smell of this charcoal is harsh.

  10. stillinger27

It’s pretty much junk. But for the cost per pound, you’re probably doing ok. I would not use it for quality, long cooks. But for a quick steak or burgers? Works for that. You do have to expect to likely see some junk. Though I’ve seen that in KJ, B&B and a few others. Mostly concrete in those, but some other stuff.

  11. Buy Jealous Devil for high quality lump. The Mesquite at Smart and Final is also pretty good.

  12. The_Chozen1

I agree with the majority here! It’s not great but if you’re in a pinch go for it just don’t use it for smokers and cooks over 2 hours ☝🏿if you want to stick with lump coal try jealous devil it’s a little pricey but last a bit better

  13. noobprodigy

I grabbed 3 bags to try it out. I don’t do much low and slow with charcoal. I have an electric smoker. I have some bags of Mr. Bar B Q that has been good enough that I can use when I do Brazilian BBQ if this stuff is bad.

  14. Elderwastaken

Low quality. I bought a bag once and wasn’t impressed.

  15. UnderstandingDry1241

    Overpriced and inconsistent quality

  16. JustACarNut77

I’ve never had that. I recently got some of there charcoal pellets as well

  17. WaterChicken007

Looks like they had some literal garbage for sale and you bought a bunch.

My last bag of this was terrible and I literally just poured the remainder of the bag into my BBQ, lit it, then walked away as it all burned to ash. It was the cheapest way of disposing of this shit. There was no way I was going to cook another meal over it.

  18. maniacal_monk

Kinda ass, but it’ll work if it’s all you have. You’ll have to sift through a bunch of garbage though

  19. SpyDiego

Found a vape pen once, last bag I purchased. Now it’s either b&b or jd

  20. Temporary_Nebula_729

Better if you go find a couple pallets

  21. bryan19973

Good charcoal with even better trash inside of it

  22. mklilley351

When did they lose quality? I remember using it 10ish years ago and it was all good cuts, no metal or junk

  23. bigkutta

Used once in a pinch, was definitely poor quality when compared to my go to Kingsford

  24. The_OsoGato

B&B is just the best for my needs. I won’t buy anything else.

  25. RevolutionaryField11

Have not had issues about other stuff beside charcoal being in the bag, generally good price per pound.

  26. kingkron52

Trash. I had enough after getting multiple bags with paint stirrers, rocks, and other random shit that shouldn’t be in there.

  27. Disassociated_Assoc

Bought two bags of this to try, and after the first cook when I found nails, screws, and composite wood in the bag I tossed the open bag and returned the unopened bag. This stuff is literally garbage charcoal.

  28. hate-the_beach

Lump charcoal in my opinion is trash. It falls through the grates in the chimney. So what do to counter that is put a layer of briquettes down in the chimney and then add lump. But the best are the cylinder charcoal things.

  29. Acrobatic_Band_6306

I’ve never had a problem with it. I don’t use a lot of lump charcoal though.

  30. FullofKenergy

I have read that big green egg lump charcoal is made by royal oak but the quality control is much better

  31. DJ-Doughboy

its terrible. I mean it burns BUT it’s full of random bullshit that should NOT be in charcoal, ever

  32. Final_Doughnut_8526

It’s shit. Just go w Kingsford

  33. ilikemyusername1

Cowboy lump is superior and it’s still crap.

  34. Nickelnuts

Not anymore. I used to get the Weber bags because they fit nice in my performer deluxe side bin. But now I only buy Maple Leaf. Since it’s made in Quebec and I’m no longer buying anything made south of the border.

  35. Public-Reputation-89

It smokes more than others and pops more. I cook on a wood deck

  36. MiguelSTG

Garbage. The bags contain actual garbage.
