How integral is sauce to a pizza? Like is it even pizza? Let’s say you have toppings, cheese, and crust but no sauce. Isn’t that kinda just cheesy toast? 🤔

No, it’s not pizza. “Pizza without sauce” is just a depressed focaccia.

    There’s not even cheese :’(

I used to order Pizza hub pizza with no sauce because they hate great pretzel crust but their sauce was pure dog shit. I’d use store bought sauce and it was a big pizza dipper basically.

If it has no sauce it’s just cheese bread

“Pizza” without sauce is flatbread. You can omit all toppings, but the sauce is integral part.

Toast is toasted already made bread. Flatbread is just baked.

That’s… just bread with toppings. Guilty of pizza fraud and misrepresentation.

I have questions… How was this ordered?

Why heat up flatbread and pepperoni in the oven when you can pay 4X more to have it delivered?

I would think crust, sauce, and at least one topping (cheese or other) is necessary to qualify as pizza. But I also don’t claim to know anything.

Sometimes I question whether a white pizza is a pizza because it’s not tomato sauce. When is the quiche not a pizza? with the addition of eggs?

A good tomato sauce drives the point home. A good tomato sauce will bring them to the yard. A good tomato sauce is the capstone of the pyramid…

No sauce, No cheese, No service.

    Focaccia Only.

    >How integral is sauce to a pizza?

[a dish made typically of flattened bread dough spread with a savory mixture usually including tomatoes and cheese and often other toppings and baked](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/pizza)

So I way say that a pizza needs a sauce for it to classify as a pizza. The sauce is usually tomato based, but it does not necessarily have to be tomato.

I’d say, to have a pizza, you need the three key ingredients of cheese, sauce, and pizza dough. But I’ve known people who couldn’t eat one of those items for health reasons, so in that case I think exceptions can be made.

It’s all crust…. honestly, with some little Caesars dipping sauce, this would be fire.

  15. I’ll go a step further and say that it needs to be a marinara/red sauce to be pizza. Otherwise it’s a flatbread that’s pizza shaped. A lot of people have disagreed with me but I’ll hold steadfast.

pizza without sauce of some kind is just stuff bread

  17. I do love sauce less pizza from time to time but that stuff looks like the surface of the moon.

It’s still pizza. I’m of the opinion that the line between pizza and focaccia is already blurry enough, so even if this isn’t a really satisfying pizza, it’s still the real deal. I also consider garlic fingers to be pizza, for what it’s worth.

It would be cheesy toast, but where’s the cheese!😳

It’s simply pizza bianca. By the way, your posting history is quite interesting!
