I repotted my tomato seedlings about a week and a half ago. They looked super happy for the first few days and grew a ton and then suddenly leaves started curling and turning purple. I moved them to a more regulated temperature area in my house and there’s been a good amount of new growth.
The original leaves that were curling are dying still (I had to trim a few off) and I just looked at the soil and it looks like the roots are exposed??? I had planted them pretty deep when repotting but are they too shallow?
Not sure what to do from here, any advice would be very appreciated!!

I’d suggest gently repotting them up to the first leaves. Make sure that you’re using a sterile potting soil if possible they can take a very gentle feeding, like very diluted fish emulsion. Otherwise, I think they look great!
You’re keeping the soil too moist let it dry some before watering again
My friend, these look terrible. They should be lush, dark green with wide leaves by now. These need more Nitrogen right away, and probably time to let the soil dry out between waterings. Id get new high quality potting mix and transplant these and bury them another 2-3 inches while adding soluble fertilizer, they should be set after that.
I’m sorry to say that I agree they look terrible. It’s time to start over.
Based on a number of similar posts, I just posted a complete concise guide to starting seeds. Take a look!
You need better soil it stays too wet and leeches nitrogen. It has to fast draining with some water retention.
Also, bring the light closer and add more soil next time.
Needs stronger light, download a ppfd light app, and adjusts until to get between 350 to 450. Make sure it is on the ppfd setting as their different light measurements
I can suggest: fill up the containers up to the indented line right below the top to give the plant more room. I would buy Fox Farm Happy Frog bagged soil if you’re searching for some soil. It’s good for most plants. When they are larger you can use the Fox Farm Oceans forest soil when transplanting for the last time. Both work well, I prefer to use sprinkle dry amendments nutrients over bottled liquid nutrients. Either way follow the instructions with starting out using half strength to see how the plant reacts before going full strength is preferred
