Had one – the legs rusted off. Then we rested it on a ring of bricks, inconvenient but workable.

Not bad, but not having the ash catcher is a bummer

I use a large galvanized bucket instead of the supplied ash catcher.

You’ll learn everything you need to know on this grill enjoy

Granted $20 is okay, but you really paid for the name on a used kettle grill like this. IMO

Spend $40 more for a new grate and you will have done very well.

Given the age I would mention the first and most frustrating thing that breaks on these (broke 2x in a row for me) is the intake vent controls (3 metal sheets at bottom). It’s marketed as an ash sweeper but the reason is really worth having is it controls the temperature.

In any event the replacement is imho better than the stock one and can be added even if the original looks rusted and unusable.

Congrats! ER on the damper indicates it’s a 1996 model.

    Solid. Kinda.

Brother gave me his old one (at least 15 years old). I refinished it, bought new grates (upgraded from the standard), cleaning blades (vent blades), a new cover, bought a chimney, and the time to do all that and money I put into it was probably close to what I would’ve cost to buy a new one…
Obviously I’m salty about it haha but feels nice to cook on something I brought back to life!
Have fun! Chimneys are 100% worth it!

A used Weber for $20, it’s like pocket change. A good cleaning and looks like you got a great deal

Brush out the inside, especially the lid, hose it out and let it dry in the sun. Spray inside of lid with PAM, wouldnt hurt to spray inside belly too. WD40 on top, bottom vents.

Your bottom grate looks fine, with what you paid? I’d go buy a new main grate at AGE or Lowe’s. If you want to clean it, wire brush both sides (so you get between the grids of the grate) then use a wad of paper towels dipped in cooking oil to coat both sides before you do a burn-off.

Good to start without someone else’s crap in the kettle. Start a fire, add some smoker chunks, let er rip.

  12. You got a great deal, parts are available if you need them but that looks ready for a burn off followed by some burgers and brats 😆😂

I have one that looks almost exactly like that, except with original ash catcher, that is around 30 years old. Still grilling like a champ 😀

At least 30 year old. Weber stop making wooden handle in the 1990s (unless aftermarket). I would not use any of those grates Should have paid you $20 to take it.
