I never did pay attention to that adage "only cook with what you'd drink".
I always thought Amarone stew was a colossol waste of money.
Anyway, after being gifted this complete horrorshow by a well meaning friend, I thought cooking would be the only way to get rid of it. Little did I know it's not even wine! It's rhubarb and strawberry flavoured alcopop. So now I have a pasta dish that smells like a tween's first night drinking. Serves me right, I guess… 😭

I love this video about Jam Shed
How did you possibly think it was wine up to the point you poured it into a meal?
I feel your pain..
I was gifted a bottle ‘Choco Vine’ the other day..
“Oh,I see you haven’t tried that wine I got you yet.”
“No I’m saving that for a special day.”lol
Tbh this might be a nice mixer for cocktails. No syrup needed 😆
I bet this would be delightful in the summer on ice with some seltzer water or cheap sparkling mixed in.
This bottle just screams “I’m shit” in so many ways.
You know what, “only cook with what you’d drink” is actually bad advice – You can literally go to the kitchens of some of the greatest restaurants in the world, and you’ll notice that they use crappy box wine.
Because when you cook a wine down, all the flavor nuances will disappear and be cooked off. The volatile compounds that make a wine good, and the alcohol are all cooked off.
This is why when you look at sales rankings, in most countries the big box brands are on or near the top. In the US, Franzia and Bota Box are 1st and 3rd place respectively: [The 20 Most Popular Domestic Wine Brands In America (2020) | VinePair](https://vinepair.com/booze-news/most-popular-american-wine-brands-2020/)
It’s not that Franzia is any good, it’s that they’re good enough for a chef trying to make a stew or a sauce. There are plenty of wines worth cooking with that you probably consider way too crappy to drink.
The problem with Jam Shed, is that it is a wine-based cocktail. They added Strawberry and Rhubarb flavor extract to it. Obviously this becomes a problem in your stew!
If you have costco membership and you live in a place where costco sells wine, the Kirkland boxes are great for cooking.
😭😭😭 this is hilarious, thanks for sharing mon ami.
I woulda added this to a milk punch then clarified
Tell me you want a headache tomorrow without telling me.
Craft Wine
Would be a good one for the guy from Chateau Migraine on Insta
