This is glass gem corn i grew last year. I harvested about 7 months ago and this is 2 attempts at popping in my air popper.
This variety is marketed as popcorn on multiple sites. Any ideas on this failure to pop.

Not sure but I love half pops and would scarf these down

Maybe try in an oil to see if that helps.

Soak in water for a few min and use lots of oil

How bout try popping in oil just to see. Put in two kernels turn up heat, when the first kernel pops turn off the heat and pour in what you are going to pop (typically 1/4 cup popcorn to 2 tablespoons oil). Turn off the heat. Let it sit exactly 30 seconds, then turn up the heat and wait. As the popping slows turn down the heat. If this works your popcorn is good.

They could be stale. Add a little oil and try again.

On top of the fantastic advice given already, I’ll add that glass gem isn’t known for popping the greatest even though it’s advertised as a popcorn. Though everyone’s mileage will vary and some people’s corn is perfect while mine is kinda ass

Not enough moisture in the kernels.

I’ve used this variety as popcorn and it’s worked fine even as super old seed, like ten years old. I’ve popped it in oil in a covered pot though.
Humidity makes a difference. How are you storing the seed? It needs a certain amount of moisture to pop properly, so if you’re storing in say a dehumidifying freezer like you would for planting stock it might not work as well for popping.
My old-ass seed was in a glass jar with a metal lid in a dark cellar.

You can rehydrate popcorn by putting a few drops of water with it it in an airtight container, shaking gently to distribute, and then waiting a week or so.
If your popcorn is too dry it won’t pop well, and if it’s too damp it pops but makes itself soggy.

I’ve never used an air popper but I bet it would do better with some oil or butter.
