Seen this “20 ribeyes for $49.99” truck… we stopped and totally got SOLD.. I’ve included pictures of everything we got plus we got an extra box of the fillets. We spent $210 after tax. The only reason we stopped is because we were getting ready to go to a butcher today anyway so we figured it was the perfect opportunity… I’m feeling awful after purchasing it I already regret it. Please tell me something good about these guys.

    I love buying meat…from a stranger…on the side of the road…in a U-Haul

  2. jimmyre10

You bought unmarked meat out of a truck… I really don’t know what else to tell you. Should’ve just kept on driving towards the butcher

  3. Alison_762

Scammed. I fell for it a few years ago. The steaks are very thin and aren’t flavorful.

  4. Welp, OP, I think you got some middling cuts that got plumped up with a sodium solution. That said, grill ’em hot and tasty and down the hatch,

  5. Asleep-Energy-26

The only good thing is you didn’t spend $500

  6. Fantasy_Puck

These will probably shrink quite a bit (much more than usual) due to being pumped full before packaging

So, you didn’t save a bunch of money here.

You spent a bunch of money that you weren’t planning on spending (You were planning on going to the butcher which is presumably nicer than this). You’re not getting 20 ribeyes for $40. You’re getting 20 crappy ribeyes and some other cheap steaks and hamburger for $200.

It’s not expensive per lb, so whatever, but it’s cheap for a reason.

It probably won’t kill you, but don’t buy stuff you aren’t shopping for to begin with, and if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

  8. Invalidsuccess

scam. All I had to see was first pic .

Never buy from the meat truck selling steaks at too good to be true prices

  9. maybeinoregon

Everybody has to go through this once. You never know, you might like them.

At least yours was a big truck on the side of the road. Mine was a small refrigerator truck driving through the neighborhood we just moved into. Lol

It’s not a terrible deal for the price. They are almost certainly filled with a phosphate solution to increase the size/weight. If they end up not making great steaks, I would probably use the meat for street tacos, cheesesteaks, beef bourguignon, etc.

People here may give you a hard time, but you can absolutely do something good with that meat. You will have to sort out whether or not you got a fair deal for yourself.

  11. Did they try to sell you speakers too? That was the scam I ran into twice in mall parking lots in the late 80s and early 90s.

  12. You got ripped, gonna need some stitches and a donut ring for a while… sorry for your loss.

  13. JimEDimone

They are the same “ribeyes” they sell at the Dollar Tree.

    You overpaid.

  14. Prestigious_Heart184

Meh. Probably not the best decision you’ve ever made in your life but it won’t be the worst. My guess is next time you’ll go to the butcher instead. There are far more expensive lessons in life, at least this one puts some food in your belly.

  15. RegulMogul

Politely asking… Did you not think “meat truck” was odd enough? Even meat truck plus permit?

Anyways you’ll have a great story and edible steaks.

  16. EarlTheLiveCat

They look thin and don’t have much marbling. Maybe marinate and use for stew.

  17. CobblerWrong4014

It’s easy to have the pickiest standards when you are some Redditor commenting from the pack and talking down it. Yeah it’s not great or a great value but if you read all this shit here you’d think you need to throw it out and hate your life for making such a dumb purchase.

Just don’t buy it again and enjoy what you have. Don’t expect the world from it but it’s sure as shit better than chicken or pork

  18. Prairie-Peppers

These posts show up here every week… never actually heard of someone buying from them though.

  19. soul_on_ice

Let me guess, “free candy” from a van seems like a good deal, right?

  20. Itchy_Professor_4133

How can it be more obvious to not buy meat from a truck on the side of the road with tacky advertising on the side. “USDA inspected And Approved” might as well just say “As Seen On TV” lol

  21. Still-Student1656

Meat that has in ingredients list…has to be good, right?

  22. Redgecko88

    Oh man…
So that’s how the steak scam works… no marbling, cheap meat, overpriced and you pay for packaging.

Good to know. I’ll file this away with the Google play gift card scam. Thanks! 🫡

  23. Winter-Classroom455

    Well..

It’s choice grade. It’s also 15% seasoning and solution which and mechanically tenderized. Should tell you all you need to know. Good cuts of steak don’t need to be tenderized by machines or a hammer, you should need 15% of its total weight to be added liquids and seasoning.

Go to your local grocery store. Did you pay more at the truck? Scammed. If you paid less then less scammed. Depending on the store you could probably get better steaks there than you can at that truck

  24. OneSarcasticDad

Anyone else notice the asterisk next to All Natural? Also the packaging says no preservatives but a use of sodium phosphate is as a preservative.

  25. dejablue7

$210 for less than 10 lbs of steak that looks like select grade (15% water) + ground beef. You could’ve gotten prime at costco or wildfork for less.

I’d probably be too scared to eat that food med rare, the way they process it.

  26. $210 for roughly 13lbs of choice (and likely also select) grade beef that’s been filled with a brine solution. That’s an average of $16 a pound. Terrible deal and super low quality product overall. Stick to butchers or Costco.

  27. Truck meat has never been a good idea, but rest easy, lots of people have fallen for it. I got some truck meat once, once.

As long as this is your first venture into the world of truck meat.

  28. Desperate_Set_7708

We have a couple of those near us. There every year spring-fall. Nothing sus about their legality.

How this works is what some have said: low quality cuts that wouldn’t make it into a retail store. Paying too much for what you’re getting.

  29. sweeethoneybear

I messaged the salesman and he told me I can return them. I think I will Monday morning.

  30. ProudAd8135

Lmao I used to help sell this stuff as a teenager. Neighbor got kicked out of his house by his cousin so we let him crash on our couch. In turn he gave us an inside scoop on this business. In 2011, you could buy pallets of that exact looking case there for like 30$ each. Of course you had to buy maybe 20 cases at least . He told us it was mostly dairy cow and horse(the really red ones)

“Hey, crazy question. Do you eat meat?” Would be our hook. Made enough money to pay the bills and buy weed.

Dude was from Missouri, loved DMX and ICP, told me stories about drinking black velvet and taking xannys, waking up in body bag in the mourge. Last I heard he finally kicked his meth habit.

Anyway the meat was ok, but not for the 349$ price he’d get people to pay.

  31. rabidninjawombat

you paid 30$ for “solutions” noticed on every box (besides the patties) “containts up to 15% solutions”

Mostly water and juices. In the future if you see cryvacced meat like this that has “solutions” in the labeling turn around and walk away. Its a scam.

Not saying you cant eat them, but guarentee you can get comparable amounts for decent prices just by shopping sales. (we have USDA Choice ribeyes going on sale next week, for 6$/lb, less than a dollar more a pound than you paid with zero solutions)

  32. BioAnagram

Morgan Freeman: “They, in fact, were not USDA inspected and approved.”

  33. No-Metal2605

Taking one for the team, thank you! Is it normal to have a recommended 150 internal cook temp on steak packaging?

  34. ThaWeeknd702

“EBT” accepted took me all the way out lol
