Just a pleasant video that I wanted to share. Teared up a little watching it.

Great story, thanks for sharing. Very touching to see Fernando’s (and his wife’s) passion and energy. Also admire how he came up from a poor family in Mexico, was supported and mentored as a teen by the owner of Kam Hing, and now speaks multiple languages including Cantonese and is beloved by the Chinatown community.

  2. I love how the restaurants in Chinatown seems to source their ingredients from other businesses in Chinatown. The documentary on Potluck Club and Bonnie’s also showed them doing the same thing.

He has a great story and Spongies is a wonderful place!

Man, wished the flavored cakes were still $1.25 from the video ;( damn inflation.

I love the original Kam Hing sponge cake place because it is such a weird space (you have to go to understand). But I’ll have to try Spongies now.

I’ve cried over a number of NYT food videos and this was no exception. I’ll be heading downtown tomorrow to try these!

I love how inventive he is with new flavors. Now I gotta try the holiday one if it’s around since I love funfetti desserts!

Love this for Fernando! I was around when they filmed during the summer – was wondering when this would come out. Great to see him behind the scenes and share his story.

He’s always coming up with new flavors. The Banana chocolate spongie is my favorite.

I hope he gets even more business now, he deserves it.
