I know that everyone says lump is the way to go because of chemical binders used in briquettes. The Jealous Devil briquettes are chemical free and burn really hot from my experience in the cast iron hibachi days.
Anyway, I am using them up to do my initial fire and seasoning. Gotta keep my eye on the temp to keep it at 400F because this thing really ramps up fast after 300F. I expect a good amount of ash, but I’ll be cleaning that all out before cooking anyway. For the cook. I’ll switch over to lump.

I bought a bag accidentally and used it in my BGE. They’re not bad.
I was wondering about these as they’re half the price of the lump and it says it’s made for ceramic grills, and has a picture of a kamado on the bag lol.
I wound up not adding lump to the fire bowl. I think I got a pretty good Maillard reaction on this ribeye using the cast iron grate. Moved over for indirect heat and direct char in the corn.

I use the lump for good/long stuff but these briquettes are great (and cheap) for day to day.
Used them today in fact.
If it is a quick sear I mix briquettes with the smaller end of bag stuff..
They do produce more ash.
I feel i should use an anonymous profile when saying such blasphemous things!!
