First time smoker winging these pork ribs. I didnt want to do anything fancy and my husband doesnt like sweet meat so no sugar like alot of recipies call for
The plan is either smoke for 3-4 hours at 250 or wrap them with some bbq sauce at the 2 hour mark not sure yet.
I dont really want to open the smoker because when I opened it to add the meat it dropped 50 degrees and took 30 min to get back to temp.
Anyway any ideas/recipies for weird things to smoke? Cheese? Fruit? Any advice for a newbie?

  1. My good sir. This looks like my 5 year set up. I’m still only a month in and cooking my first brisket right now.

I’m new too, so don’t have great advice, of course. I did do my first pork butt this weekend. It’s pretty freaking delicious, and really is pretty easy to do. I’d guess it’s one of the more forgiving cuts to get used to how things work. It did take…18 hours, plus rest…so plan accordingly. But I was asleep for the first half of it, then doing yard work and smoking some cigars the rest of the time. Very nice weather to be around the smoker being hungry every time I smelled it.

I’m planning to do some baby back ribs next, cause I have a bunch. Regular ribs on the list. I think I’ll do a big batch of wings sometime and have some folks over to share. Going to work up to brisket; little scared of that one.

I’ve been wondering what would happen if I put some big pineapple slices in there. Don’t know why that sounds delicious to me. Guess I’ll try it one day. And peaches, that has to be good, right?

Acorn squash? I love them roasted so I bet they could smoke. They have a pretty light flavor, so might have to pick a light wood species so it’s not overwhelmed.
