The seminars on the quality of Cretan olive oil at MAICH were successfully completed

Two experiential seminars on the topic: “Familiarization with the Quality of Cretan Olive Oil, its organoleptic characteristics, as well as its correct selection, use and communication in mass catering establishments” were held with great success on Saturday, April 12 at the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania (MAICH). 45 catering professionals from all over Crete participated in the activities.

The seminars were organized in collaboration with the Region of Crete, CIHEAM-MAICH, and the Organoleptic Laboratory of Crete ASR, with the aim of highlighting the added value of quality olive oil in Greek gastronomy and its decisive contribution to the customer experience.

During the seminars, participants had the opportunity to taste selected samples of Cretan varieties, to become familiar with the organoleptic characteristics of extra virgin olive oil and to gain an in-depth understanding of the importance of quality in its selection and use, as well as in the ways of promoting it in the catering industry, as a fundamental element of Cretan Gastronomy.

The seminar speakers were:

Yiannis Apostolakis, President of the Cretan Gastronomy Network
Eleftheria Germanaki, Head of the Organoleptic Laboratory of Crete ASR and international olive oil judge
Manolis Karpadakis, Vice President of the Crete Exporters Association, olive expert, and expert in the production of quality olive oil
