There is a clip that attaches to the thermometer from the inside of the dome. You can find them on Amazon. Def replace the conveggtor. Many recommend the cast iron version. It’ll last forever. Kick ash basket is a MUST
Take the cooking grate off the top of the eggspander then the you can remove the conveggtor.
You can purchase new parts to replace the broken ones. You can purchase a new dome thermometer as well.
Chances of them warranting the broken ceramics are not to great. You can try to make a claim but don’t be surprised if they do not accept it.
Other than that, just start cooking and practicing temp control.
It looks like you have a pswoo (the grate that encompasses the convEGGtor). The convEGGtor should slide out of the side of the grate or you can pull off the top grate to access it from above.
Fire bowl cracks shouldn’t impede usage but if I were you I’d try and procure a new one. Same for the convEGGtor, it might allow heat through that crack. You might poke around online and see if others have had success repairing.
Temp gauge should have a little metal clip on the back that prevents it from sliding out. It holds it securely against the dome from inside.
Must have accessories – I’d recommend a half moon for being able to do direct and indirect cooking simultaneously. I’d also recommend “new style” hinge assembly if it has the old one, as it is much better and a worthy upgrade. I don’t have a kick ash/pan but I know others swear by it.
BGE likely won’t honor warranty for a resold egg since it isn’t registered to you, but you can try.
Congrats on the egg! Still a good deal even if you have to pay to replace a few parts.
I’d clean out that Egg and take a careful look for cracks, very possible there are cracks in the Egg itself.
You can likely continue with the fire bowl, pay attention to how the vents line up,
* The Kick Ash basket will help here
* The conveggtor is trash with this break
* Buy a new thermo with the clip
* You will not get any love asking for warranty work
* You will still comne out OK with buying the new parts
* Get a cover
I paid $1700 for a 7 month old XL BGE with table so you are doing great.
The thermometer sliding out isn’t really a problem, it’s not going to fall out when you use the egg. I ditched the clip on my L after about 2 months; it doesn’t really do anything for me and I like being able to spin the temp gauge (so the desired temp is at 12:00, so I can check from inside) or pull it out slightly if I’m using a Dutch oven or a raised rack.
