A Maryland-based Mediterranean fast-casual brand announced Tuesday it is opening its first Detroit location in the heart of downtown this summer.
Cava will be in a Bedrock building at 636 Woodward in Detroit. It’s next to Shake Shack just outside Campus Martius park.
“The addition of Cava to downtown Detroit will bring a fresh, modern concept to the city,” Bedrock’s senior vice president of leasing Naumann Idrees said in a media alert announcing the upcoming restaurant. “Their commitment to bold, healthy food and vibrant community experiences aligns perfectly with the energy that defines Detroit. We’re delighted to introduce high-quality brands like Cava to the heart of the city.”
Founded in 2006 by first-generation Greek Americans Ted Xenohristos, Ike Grigoropoulos and Dimitri Moshovitis, Cava has more than 300 locations nationwide. According to Social House News, a Cava restaurant is also expected to open in Canton in a former Boston Market location on Ford Road.
The fast-casual menu specializes in multi-ingredient, high-nutrient dishes like their spicy lamb and avocado bowl with feta, red pepper, hummus, pickled onions, lentils and tahini and the falafel crunch with roasted vegetables, hummus, feta, pita crisps, lentils, rice, greens and more. Cava allows customers to also build their own grain bowls, pita sandwiches and salads.
The rest of the menu is rounded out with dips, cookies and beverages like pineapple-apple-mint and blueberry-lavender juices, tea and fountain sodas.
