Has anyone used these refillable propane cylinders? I just emptied the 1lb. one I got from Lowe's and am concerned about the empty cylinder disposal.

  1. I’m pretty sure Lowe’s doesn’t take them back and we only have yearly HHW days in our community. I’m not just going to throw it in with our household trash as many have suggested.

You bet and they are refillable too. I have a couple of 1 to 20 pound screw-on adapters. Pretty easy to do, just be safe.
My refill method is: Screw the adapter onto the one pounder. Attach to the twenty pounder and flip upside down onto a solid safe surface. Open the twenty pounder valve. You will hear the hiss. When the hiss stops, turn the valve off. Disconnect. Do the leak test.
Tip: Leave the 20 pound tank in the sun before starting to build pressure and put the one pounder in the freezer. The propane will flow faster.
Some people don’t agree with the refilling but I’m a fan as I go through a lot and I have been doing it for years and safe while I do it.

Our city has a hazardous waste disposal drop off location that takes them.

  4. Tiger torch and a 20lb tank work for me. I also use a heat gun which works great if you have a power outlet close by.

I use the Mr Heater Fuel Keg 1lb refillable cylinders for my GrillBlazer grillgun. They have been great.

I have a 1lb flameking green bottle and it’s great with the refill kit. I also refill the disposable ones but they don’t leave the house.

I had the same concern, do you have a 20lbs tank around for a gas grill? I have my Blackstone next to my BJ and use the hose adapter for the full size tanks instead of using the small tanks that run out too quickly.

I switched to the 20 lb refillable tanks with my grill gun, couldn’t be happier.

I have the shorter wider 1lb tanks from flame king. It’s an awesome system if you use enough propane to justify the cost. I didn’t even know they made this style, so now I have one of these on the way so I can use it with my fogger.

Local hardware store offers a ~$12 fill on a 20lb tank, I can refill these for a fraction of the disposable tanks and feel fine using all the LP things rather than try to use adapters or mess with dangerously refilling tanks that aren’t meant to be refilled. The only problem I’ve had is with the tiny 3 or 4 oz tank. The valve is stuck open so if I fill it, it leaks out. The 1 lb tanks have been perfect though.

I have about 10 of the flame king refillable cylinders. They were good, when they were the only game in town for refillable. However, they have a weak point, and it’s that they use a tiny Allen head set screw to open and close a vent every time you fill them. That set screw eventually strips and then the whole. Linder is useless.

This is solved by a different brand of refillable bottle. T[he Mr heater fuel keg](https://a.co/d/3WNLbgO)uses a simple
1/4 turn valve, that you operate with a ring that’s attached to the end of it. It’s a MUCH better system. You can get it, as well as the filling device on Amazon, or off the shelf at tractor supply. (The fill adapters are not intechargeable, if you have flame king and want to upgrade you’ll need the Mr heater fill adapter too).
