I am considering purchasing a used large egg this month. I am new to using this type of device and would appreciate any feedback from the community regarding questions I should ask when I meet the seller.
Aside from the photos, here is all the information I have about the product from the seller:
“Big Green Egg Large, with Nest and side composite shelves. Have half perforated grid, ash tool, grid gripper, conveggtor, and new top for better air regulation. Works great and is in great shape just don’t use it much anymore and hate to see it sit. Make me an offer.. have almost $1800 into the setup.”
Thank you everyone for your input!

If you buy a new one, you get lifetime warranty. My base cracked on my xl last summer and it was replaced asap after 13 years of use.
Inspect it meticulously before agreeing to buy it because it won’t be covered by warranty. I also would not pay more than $500 for a used large egg even with accessories. It can be an eggcellent value though, I got a XL on marketplace last year and it is great.
Buy new with warranty, after 15+ years using my egg I’m glad I did with a few warranty claims.
Without knowing how much used BGEs run in your area, $675 is not a bad price.
Inspect it very carefully for cracks. Walk away if the BGE has any cracks in the structure. You can negotiate down the price if something like the firebowl or Conveggtor is cracked.
Looks like it has the new style hinge/rings. Make sure it opens smoothly and stays open. The lid should not drop hard when closing it.
Perform a clean burn before cooking. It’s possible you’ll want to replace the gasket and grate.
That’s kind of high for a used one.
I right a used one, replaced the hinges and all the metal stuff and was under $300 all in. I wouldn’t pay more than 500$ unless it’s in amazing condition.
This a no brainer I would jump on This!
For tht price, no, just spend the differen for a new one at that point.
Make sure there’s no scent of burning fluids. And make sure the firebox isn’t cracked
Too much.
