My local bbq place smokes prime. I’m not a fan. I want old fashion prime rib. But many people like it

Yes.

It’s normal any different than cooking any other large piece of meat. If you used a pellet grill it’d be damn near the dame as an oven, but obviously an offset or anything else would require more.
PS. I’d recommend giving it a good sear at the end.

I put most things in the smoker.
Sekshual_Tyranosauce
I have yes. It was one of the best pieces of beef I ever ate.

Nope, prime rib is best done in the microwave on defrost for 96 minutes.

Doesn’t everyone do prime rib in the smoker?
tibbymat
I have an 8lb prime rib roast in the smoker right now. It’s been marinating and seasoned since yesterday noon-ish. I’m gonna smoke it for a few hours and then broil it in the oven for a nice crust.

I get rib roasts when they are on sale and then cut off the ribs to smoke and cut the rest into steaks.
Smoking some ribs as we speak.

Kenji’s reverse sear method is foolproof. Makes for a guaranteed show stopper every holiday.

Smoked prime rib is awesome!
Pro tip–slather it in molasses before adding salt and pepper. It comes out incredible
