Hey everyone,
I received this bottle of Château d'Yquem Sauternes in 2019, but it doesn’t have a vintage on the label, which I know is highly unusual for Yquem. Even more curious – it has a blue capsule (instead of the typical gold one).
The label says:
“Mis en bouteille à la propriété – S.A. du Château d’Yquem 33210 Sauternes – France – Bordeaux”
Does anyone know what kind of bottling this might be? Could it be a special edition, private release, or something else? I've searched quite a bit but couldn’t find any reference to a non-vintage Yquem with a blue top.
Any insights would be much appreciated!
Thanks fspn

As I understand it, the chateau sometimes released “declassified” wines, where the quality is not up to the premier cru superieur standard. Could be a very decent wee drop by the sounds of it, if not up there with a proper Yquem.
This isn’t Yquem per se. It’s a parcel of grapes from Yquem that they didn’t think was good enough to go in the main wine.
Most people try these and then understand why it’s declassified
Complete aside but since we are on the topic of Yqem – when people refer to this winery in short form, they say either Yqem (i think correct) or D’Yqem (i think incorrect linguistically). Am I missing something that people who know better than me know or is this a case of people who don’t understand French just parroting what looks like one word?
It is declassified, hence it is not the ,grand vin’ of the chateau. In Médoc/Sauternes/Graves of Bordeaux when you do not see the ,grand cru classé’ it means it is not the 1855 classified wine, but a 2nd or 3rd wine coming from the same property. Hope this explains.
