One of the best meals I had in Japan was a gigantic, California-burrito sized Japanese yam wrapped in foil that I bought from a street vendor outside of a temple. It was perfectly roasted and sticky brown on the outside from the carmelized sugars. I sat on a bench in a park and ate it very happily.

I was very confused for a moment, I would never call this a yam, it’s a sweet potato. Looked it up to check, and apparently a lot of people call sweet potatoes yams! I think of a yam as more like a nagaimo/yamaimo.

It really looks delicious. Sometimes, the simplest things are the best.
