Eid celebrations call for something sweet, and kunafa is the perfect treat! Crispy, buttery kataifi dough, a gooey cheese filling, and a fragrant sugar syrup—this dessert is a must-try. Here’s how to make it:
INGREDIENTS:
3 cups Kataifi shredded dough
12 tbsp unsalted butter (softened)
1 cup Nabulsiya cheese (or mozzarella)
1 tsp lemon juice
½ cup sugar
½ cup water
Red food color (optional)
Chopped pistachios for garnish
INSTRUCTIONS:
1️⃣ Make sugar syrup: In a saucepan, heat ½ cup water + ½ cup sugar on low until dissolved. Boil for 1 min, then add 1 tsp lemon juice. Set aside.
2️⃣ Prep dough: Cut kataifi dough into small sections & mix with 10 tbsp softened butter.
3️⃣ In a pan, spread 1 tbsp butter & a little red food color (optional). Add half the kataifi mixture, pressing it down.
4️⃣ Add shredded cheese over the dough, then top with the remaining kataifi. Press gently.
5️⃣ Cook on low heat for 6-7 min until golden brown. Flip & cook the other side for 5-6 min.
6️⃣ Pour the warm sugar syrup over the hot kunafa. Garnish with pistachios & serve warm!
