What should I pick out at my local supermarket? I’m new to the space!

Cheapest can on the rack.
YoghurtLonely2600
Ortiz Sardines
No-Trade-2316
They need some cheaper options.

I like the Matiz Smoked Sardines (gray can, too right) as an “anytime” can. The Ekone mussels and oysters are really yummy too. My favorite Fishwife is the Smoked Mackerel in Chili Oil, it’s the stand-out can from their line.
mdmaisbae999
Who tf does fishwife think they are charging $16 a can!?!! Just bcs some YouTubers make videos they think they can charge 4 times the amount? That’s ridiculous

Man, I wish I could get that Fishwife smoked salmon in the store where I am. The stores that carry Fishwife salmon here only carry the one with chlili crisp, which is fine but not what I’m always in the mood for. That said, I wouldn’t buy it at that price. When it’s in stock, you can order it directly from them for $11/can if you get the three-pack, and you can get a discount code to get them even cheaper. $17/can is nuts.

Fishwife Smoked Rainbow Trout in my opinion, if you got a little extra to spend.

As a Dane I can really recommend Fangst. It’s the blue and white packaging in the middle row. Take the Færøsk Laks!
moxieknits
That’s a really nice selection, it’d be hard to find a sub-par tin.
Anchobrie
I would not pick the tin of salt cured anchovies. They have to be refrigerated.I’ll go to the lulas rechezadas (stuffed squid)
digableplanet
Is this L&M in Chicago? If so, they have upped their deenz game since I last went in there.
E: go with the Patagonia White Anchovies. They are NOT the salty small boys. Blew my mind the first time I had them.

The Patagonia mussels and Ekone Habeñero Hots are perennial favorites of this sub. Looks like the Tonnino tuna is underpriced for the quality. Matiz Octopus is a classic, and great in a quick pasta.
I personally think the Fishwife stuff is overpriced and underwhelming, relying mostly on branding, but to each their own. Interested in the smoked tuna pate in the top left. Looks like some good options to explore!

Rancho Gordo beans. Those are a real treat.
Tootboopsthesnoot
I’d smash some of those smoked olives

Cheapest you have for sardines are Matiz and they are great so I’d stick to those.
Ekone oysters, Fangst for a splurge every now and then
Ortiz or Patagonia also for a splurge or to mix it up when you feel like it, or if they go on sale (I see the Patagonia on sale for ~$5 a decent amount).
The Patagonia mussels are really good. Never tried the Matiz mussels but I assume they’re good too.

I am blown away by these certain supermarkets that offer such a vast selection. Both of my local stores offer pretty much the very same brands with the exception of a couple of cans of squid and mussels.

You NEED Ekone.
Normal flavoured oyster 🦪

If money was no object, I’d get the tuna in the glass jars.

Nice selection…everything
LurksInThePines
Mariz Mussels
I’ve just been craving mussels recently
Swamplust
I really like those Patagonia anchovies.
Sirduckerton
Ortiz would probably be a weekly purchase for me here. The Fangst smoked herring is a good one too. Can’t go wrong with some spicy matiz. I’d also be eyeing those jars of tuna, they look good quality. 👀

Clam juice: Swig straight from bottle

Jokers wild, pick something no one is recommending that caught your eye.

Fangst! Fangst! Fangst!

Why are the prices of tinned fish in the US so variable? Some of these tins are much more expensive in this pic compared to my area and others are slightly less. I’ve noticed it everywhere
Correct-Watercress91
There are so many great choices. Where is this supermarket? I wish the selection was that good at the places I shop.
I would definitely try any tuna or fish in a glass jar. Many afficionados maintain that glass packed fish tastes better than any fish from a tin.
OhManatree
The smoked kalamata olives sound delicious
69FireChicken
Hard to go wrong on that display, I’d for sure grab the Ortiz Sardines, the Patagonia white anchovies and the Ekone Habanero Oysters!
discogravy
straight up there are no bad choices there.
fishwife is good but tends to be pricy. i would personally go for ortiz or matiz and some fishwife (chili crisp salmon from fishwife is wonderful)
