The supply has dried up in Morocco. I'd noticed that none of my local supermarkets had much…or even none online. 😪

Thanks for posting. First I’m hearing of this.

Yet another reason for people to stock up.

To those talking about “stocking up,” why don’t you switch to eating sardines from sustainably managed fisheries instead?

I know this problem can’t be fixed purely on the consumer side but these reactions about just buying more are sad smh. Not even wondering about sardine populations and what their declines mean, just that ppl will have access to consume in the way they’ve always been consuming them. We live in interesting times.

And to bring a moroccan perspective on this… The quality and price of sardines available in Morocco right now are awful. Everything goes to the canning industry while it’s the cheapest animal protein available for most people here.

While I know it’s not on individual consumers and goes back to political choices both in Morocco and in the EU/UK/US, this goes well beyond sardines. Cheap food imports in Europe are really taking their toll on the environment and people’s ability to feed themselves for reasonable prices.

Please don’t stock up as this sends the wrong signal to massive greedy corporations both in Morocco and outside.

We’ve been told about fishery collapse and overfishing for years. Looks like it’s becoming real.

For those stocking up. Never forget when eating each sardine that YOU are the problem.
