Hey y’all, just picked up a master touch on marketplace and being new to all this I wanted to ask what you would do.
I’ve read some good cleaning guides and will scrape what I can, but is this rust worth scraping off or just swap out to new grates?
Thanks from a newcomer!

Burn it.
Fire is the best cleanser.
Maybe ball up some aluminum foil and rub it on the lid.
Burn, brush, oil up. It’ll be like new
Rust is not too bad. Hit it with your brush, some high heat and then oil when cooled.
Grill stone when it’s hot will make it look like new
I don’t see anything wrong. That grills probably cleaner than half the Redditors grills on this sub.
That looks so much better than mine. Just fire it up and grill away!
Burn it off. Scrub it with half an onion while hot to set the vibes and then cook something.
I vote brun and see but a good clean, a good burn and season as best you can and it should be ok…
Dude. Brand new. Hit it.
The cheap grates are stainless plated. They don’t last long, especially if not cleaned/seasoned after each cook. Pick up a nice replacement that is 100% stainless. SNS grills has a replacement that has a nice big hinge that allows you to add charcoal without removing the grates
Also, cut an onion in half and rub it all over the hot grill
Burn it. Brush it. Cook some burgers on it.
Use a pumice stone. It will make the grill sparkle. Then a damp paper towel to wipe off all the grit from the pumice stone.
Mine looks the same and I was thinking same too
Send them to me and buy new. Mine are on their way out, so I could use a set that’s lightly used.
I have something similar but when I cook on it the fire comes out blue/green. Is it safe to use or should I replace?
Buy a new shiny one for $20
Christ if that’s bad, my grates must be deadly.
heat. wire brush. butt-end of an onion. that grill is in great condition
That grate looks perfectly normal.
I use [https://www.lowes.com/pd/Scotch-Brite-226-CC-Heavy-Duty-Scour-Pad/1002788082?gStoreCode=749&gQT=1](https://www.lowes.com/pd/Scotch-Brite-226-CC-Heavy-Duty-Scour-Pad/1002788082?gStoreCode=749&gQT=1) after every cook.
Hose down the lid, re season the big grate with half an onion and heat, the lower grate basically never needs anything
Fellas I guess my grates are embarrassing
Brother my grates looked a million times worse when I uncovered that bad boy for the first time in a long time (I use my BGE more, but still appreciate my kettle). I hit them with a wire wheel, scrubbed them with a brillo pad, and burned some oil on them. Probably good for years yet. Rust isn’t going to hurt you it’ll add a little ironto your diet, but that’s about it. I wouldn’t worry about the bottom grate until it starts to rust through, the heat from the coals will burn any kind of rust prevention off. Even a stainless bottom grate is going to rust once it heat cycles enough.
New grates will look pretty much like that after 1 use.
Just use it, you’d be appalled at the grates on the weber that’s been on my mom’s porch 19 years and now gets used only the 3 times a year I dogsit 🤣
Those grates are fine. Mine are 20x worse. Just clean them, and purify them with fire 🔥. Those will last 10 more years.
Burn it and a razor blade does wonders
