What am I supposed to do with these carrots? Am I supposed to weed some away? (I’m just testing out carrots this year, I know it’s not the best set up😅)

I often crowd grow carrots, if you don’t thin them out, they will do a number of things, not grow, grow small, grow “hairy” and grow intertwined in my experience. I just find it too much to thin them out so I just leave them, I get a good harvest each year.

No point in growing if you’re not going to then them out. I spaced mine no more than 2 inches apart. I don’t fuck them. I just cut it at the surface to stop them from growing

You can try planting pelleted carrot seeds next time. They’re easier to plant one by one. Then you won’t waste or have to thin them out.

It seems that the container where you planted is too small

Thinning.
You kill off the extra babies. Your seed pack should note what spacing to use. With carrots, 1” – 2” is usually fine. Think of the Thinning number as social distancing. You want at least 1” clear surrounding each survivor.
You can pluck or pinch or slice. Carrots are usually recommended to cut with scissors and remove the decapitated babies – something about pest moth being lured by the scent of the roots.
If this were my garden, I would thin in stages. Now, do a 1.5” thin. Then pull out every other carrot as baby carrots in another month. This will leave about 3” for full grown carrots.
Thinnings from vegetables are generally edible. But my ducks love them more than I like microgreens.
Congratulations on germination!

How deep is that pot? If it’s not at least 18-24 inches…you will get Frankencarrots.

Toss them in the yard waste. There’s nothing else to do with them.

You can let it grow and harvest the greens for carrot pesto

Damn and here I am barely able to germinate mine 😩

It looks as though they’ve convened in a fairy circle haha.
I have done carrots in pots and they have done great!! Just do a lot of seed and then thin them out, and keep doing it as they grow to give them space!

I thin mine in succession because then I get teeny baby carrots to eat as I thin them, as well as carrot tops for pesto. Let them get a couple true leaves and then thin the most crowded plants, then in a few weeks thin a bit more, and on for a couple weeks until the “final” carrots that you’re going to let mature are about 2″ apart.

I’d wait until the first true leaves show up and pick the strongest to survive. Only leave about 1 per every 2 inches standing.

How deep is that pot? Minimum of 2” between

Don’t try to transplant them. That causes badly twisted and tangled carrots with soil in the crevices.
So calculate how many you think can grow with plenty of space in that container, and snip off all the extras.

This is why I don’t grow carrots. Organic carrots are so cheap and way better than anything I have been able to produce in zone 8a.

Seperate them and plant the ones you dont want in the pot in random spots in your yard.
