So I bought some alleged Carolina reaper seeds on eBay a few months ago and have been growing them. The peppers are turning from green to orange (and I assume thence to red) but these don't look like reapers to me. What could these be?

Is it the first peppers from this plant ? It is not entirely unusual for the first few pods to be off phenotype.

I agree it looks like a habanero. Gotta be careful these days. I got some “bell pepper” seeds that ended up being some really hot pepper called a death spiral. Lol. Had never even heard of it, until I asked someone.

Think this is where Chef Jeff gets all his reapers, because the only one that produced true to type as a Carolina Reaper was the plant I gave to my nephew labeled “ghost pepper”. When I saw the bumpy fruits and pointed tails it was one of the most exasperating experiences I’ve ever had because I’d bought Chef Jeffs from a local nursery for several years and never once got an actual Carolina Reaper. They were always Trinidad scorpions. My Chef Jeff’s Ghost Pepper lost half its plant mass to a couple tomato hornworms in a single night and never recovered to produce any peppers last year.
