South Africa Wine has recently released Die Basiese Beginsels van Wynbereiding (The Basic Principles of Winemaking), authored by renowned wine industry expert Charl Theron. The book aims to stimulate farmers and winemakers to go the extra mile and also contains information needed by industry leaders.

Published in 2025, this comprehensive handbook is an essential resource for students, cellar workers, winemakers, managers, and directors in the wine industry.

Charl Theron said the book was intended as a guide to help unlock the quality potential of your vineyard.

South Africa Wine said the handbook covers essential winemaking principles, from operational and financial efficiency to grape composition, cellar hygiene, wine microbiology, and local wine legislation.

“It also includes practical guidelines for producing sparkling wines, fortified and alternative wines, bottling, packaging, and cellar waste management,” South Africa Wine said.
