Tabasco is at least a 5, especially.if you put on a lot.

  2. If you use a ton of Tabasco, especially if you dip stuff, it definitely exceeds 5. 6 is more than fair. It’s certainly spicier than every sauce below it in this pic.

  3. MetaCardboard

And Cholula original a 5? Are they having different people taste each one?

  4. MoeSzyslakMonobrow

Cholula a 5 is even more out of line. A 0.5 spicy is being generous.

  5. I mean, it’s Firehouse Subs. Their hottest sauce is mild af.

  6. WhyAreOldPeopleEvil

This is a normal family hot sauce meter, they don’t consume hot.

  7. HarryTheOwlcat

Love Firehouse subs. They used to have a wider variety of actually quite spicy sauces. Still, their sandwiches are far better IMO than comparable chains.

  8. Cholula at a 5 ? Heinz Ketchup must be a solid 4

  9. The scale is Mild-Medium-Hot.

Tabasco makes sense at a 6.

Retail rates low because customers complain about “Too Spicy” CONSTANTLY. Like the customer wants to declare themselves spicelords and they top out at ketchup.

Like I’d agree, tabasco 3, habanero 6, ghost 9. I realize that’s fully subjective, but I think my comfort level caps around 6. Like I enjoyed ghost pepper chicken noodle soup, but it didn’t hit weekly rotation.

For example, when I worked in a deli, we had a “salsa chicken” I’d rate around 2.5. Any time a customer ordered it, I’d run a sample off. It surprised a lot of people, but I explained better to find out if you like it off one piece rather than buying a half pound and dumping it in the garbage.

Of course, low ratings are not particularly helpful for people who ARE looking for spice. Like curry shops that hide entire levels.

My Everest is Blairs. I doubt I’ll ever encounter 3 AM, let alone 6 AM and I don’t know how I would even sample it. I know for sure I’m not ready. But that bottle grabbed my mind with that purple and yellow wax.

Also notice a lot of downvotes on mild sauces. Don’t do that.

Do you live in Minnesota? Here in the sota, catchup is considered spicy. Hell even mayo registers.

  12. JackieTobacky

Tabasco is much hotter than Frank’s. If Frank’s is a 3, that makes sense

  13. MarcosAntonios9999

Idk about the scale, but firehouse has a scorpion sauce that is exclusive to their brand and it is actually spicy and delicious

  14. Commercial-Strike953

Maybe it’s a logarithmic scale? I agree 6/10 is very high.

  15. HansTheAxolotl

tabasco is a 1 and I won’t accept any other answers

  16. TheExtremistModerate

    They don’t even have a 10 atm.

The return of the hot sauce bar is appreciated, and as-is, it’s okay. Better than not having it. But it’s a far cry from the gloriousness of what it used to be pre-COVID.

  17. princess_ehon

Its more of a 0.5 its ketchup swimming old vinegar.
    I’m not sorry.

  18. Obvious_Trade_268

Not everybody can handle heat the same. Some people think black pepper is “spicy”.

  19. It’s hotter than Franks and I think people in this sub can’t understand the heat level these sauces have to normies. I’ll think something has no heat and it’ll kill normal people around me…lol

  20. ThatguyfromTas

It’s crazy that people can have different heat thresholds, and not everyone eats straight Carolina Reapers every day. Just wild…

  21. RainingMoneyHustard

Tabasco original is hotter than the standard Cayenne sauces and other popular brands. This is accurate.

  22. BirdLawyer50

Firehouse Subs hot sauce bar is for normal people who think sriracha is a 9. It isn’t for people who like scorpion pepper hot wing challenges

  23. mac_the_man

No, that’s about right. Now, rating Cholula a 5, that’s crazy. That should be a 3.

  24. SerOsisOfThuliver

am i missing something? …are people in this thread assuming the heat scale is referring to all hot sauces and not just the ones actually offered and labelled at the restaurant? tabasco is a 6 / 10…for what is available not for what is possible.

or is the photo omitting a much larger selection with far higher scoville ratings?

  25. Hypervisory

The scale would be relative to their other offerings. Not everyone has the context that regular hot sauce enjoyers have.

  26. It’s been such a long time since I had regular Tabasco. What would be more mild than it though?

  27. Djjubbajubba

Their scale is lil messed up. They had something that was labled like an 8 and it was sweet.

  28. I thought firehouse discontinued their hotsauce bar at all their locations after Covid, but apparently it’s just my area. Where do yall live where it’s still a thing???

  29. You gotta remember most people have no tolerance. I served a soup last week and my boss kept telling me how spicy it was, literally only added a couple dashes of white pepper and that’s all 🤷‍♂️

  30. bigyelllow

Yeah it’s relative to their other sauces, not every sauce in the world lol. So I think it’s fine.
