They look so healthy! Harvest before they start separating like that. They are still edible but they won’t be at peak flavor. You can also use the leaves like kale.

I planted broccoli for the first time this year. If there are yellow blooms appearing (very noticeable in photo 2 and 3) then pull it fast because it is about to produce blooms and it will start tasting bitter. I have cut mine a few inches below the head on the stalk and left the plant. It should produce little offshoots. Apparently some types of broccoli produce more offshoots than others. These are my initial heads. I was so proud!
They’re small but starting to flower which means you should’ve picked them a couple of days ago. Broccoli bitters when it flowers which is why we aim to harvest right before. If you harvest now it probably won’t be too bad.

Now, I did the same the first year I grew them. They ended up tasting fine.

It’s too late

Next time, harvest it when the head is still tight/compact.
Once it starts to get space between the head, it means it’s going to flower/bolt.
I always let one plant go to seed. You can get thousands of seeds from 1 plant for the next season.
Saving your seeds also helps you grow better crops as the seeds start to climatise with your location.

Definitely need to pick ASAP

I’ve never grown broccoli, but if you’re saying it’s getting warm where you live, I believe that’s what’s causing the bolt. I live in a “tropical” arid climate so I can’t plant too many things most of the year because of bolting. Maybe you’re not late, they’re just early 🫠

I’m growing broccoli for the first time this year. Right now little broccoli is growing and my neighbour told me to pull all the leaves in and tight them up to stop the broccoli flower exposed to direct sun. This way, you’ll get a bigger broccoli apparently.
