    I don’t understand why people cut onions horizontally, onions already have layers and they are easily separated

    I will never understand why people do that second step. It’s unnecessary. The layers will break the pieces apart anyway.

    You know if you make that horizontal cut first before going down it will make your life easier

    There is zero reason to cut horizontally through an onion. The layers in combination with the vertical cuts already forms cubes as an end product. Adding horizontal cuts just makes the end product less uniform.
