Just six days after a mémorable Dinner at Waldhotel Sonnora ***, I had the absolute pleasure of dining at Frantzén in Stockholm. That was a restaurant I had on my bucket list for years and I haven’t been that excited for a dinner since my first trip to Chefs table at Brooklyn Fare – back in the days with chef Cesar when the location was still in Brooklyn.
And what an experience it was. This wasn't just an incredible meal, it was a masterclass in hospitality, creativity, and pure joy.
From the moment we arrived, the entire team made us feel genuinely welcome. Every single staff member was warm, attentive, and impressively professional! They really nailed the perfect balance between relaxed charm and high-end precision. It wasn't just flawless; it was fun. We laughed so much with the crew and we all left with huge smiles on our faces.
As for the food: truly exceptional. My personal highlights were the chawanmushi with caviar, the rich and beautifully spiced king crab with an incredible vin jaune sauce and the french toast with double-marinated beef and Japanese mustard.
We went for the “Les Grands Vins” wine pairing, which delivered beautifully. My personal Highlights were the 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru and the 2021 Pinot Noir „Dundee Hills“.
Frantzén is now my benchmark for what fine dining can and should be and I can definitely say that I’ll be back.

It sounds fantastic! How much was the wine pairing, if I may ask?
It’s a top 3 dining experience for me. As you say, a wonderful experience from the get-go. I loved the division between amuse bouche and petit fours being served in the lounge area, while mains were upstairs. I think we stayed in the lounge sipping drinks for a little while after the dinner had finished lol.
They were also kind enough to package up some of their petit fours for us when we left.
I have been wanting to visit for years and i probably will later this year. I can’t wait!
One of the best meals of my life. I must come back soon.
Truly a special experience. I remember I started planning my next trip in my head as soon as I stepped out the door.
I’ve tried Zen but wasn’t impressed by its menu. This is off-topic, but has anyone been to both Frantzén and Zen and found Frantzén to be much better in terms of foods?
I am so sad they are closed when I am visiting this summer. I thought I was going early enough, but no.
How was getting reservations? I’m heading to Stockholm in September
Frantzen ruined food for me forever
Thanks for including the wines! I love Belargus.
