Hey guys. After a couple hundred smokes, had my first major fire. I keep up with vacuuming this thing out but failed to change out the foil on my liner, which resulted in a big fire. (Flames flying out the exhaust and grease trap, etc.) The powder coating is massively damaged on the inside, and a little on the outside. I called Traeger and they no longer sell replacement bodies for this thing.

I’m trying to figure out next steps. Assuming all the parts work (fans, auger, etc), I figured I would scrape off / wire-wheel all the damaged powder coating on the inside and outside, put some high heat paint on the outside damage, and I guess just lightly grease the bare metal areas on the inside. Does that sound like a good plan?

Alternatively, I considered taking it to a local order coat shop but no idea how expensive that’d be.

Any pointers?

Hey! It looks like you posted an image!

If this is a photo of one of your cooks, maybe share the recipe and techniques
used, as it’s almost guaranteed one of the first questions you will be asked!

    *What seasoning did you use?

*How long did you cook it, and at what temperature?

*Did you use any special tricks or techniques?

    Traeger on!

Hopefully people agree with your plan because that is what I did after a fire about a year and a half ago. It worked and I have not had any follow on issues but I change the foil all the time now.

I had a similar situation. I cleaned up the debris and have been using it as-is ever since. No painting or anything else. I live in a dry climate so I’m sure that helps but it’s been just fine.

  4. Mine looks worse than that and still smokes meat like a champ. It’s ugly, not broken.
