I’m not sure if it’s a jalapeño or a serrano pepper plant. The seed sprouted from last year’s dropped harvest and I just let it do its thing, but the leaves and the stalk are WAY larger than anything I had planted in the bed previously. Is this normal and will it still bear fruit? That’s my (not at all small) hand and finger for size reference.

I almost want to call it a weird pokeweed.

But yeah, it doesn’t look like any pepper I’ve grown, and I currently have seeds of some sixty varieties.

Okay, after a quick google search, you’re all right. So strange bc I don’t have it anywhere else in my yard so maybe it was in the compost I used?

This is only my 3rd year vegetable gardening and I was so proud of how well it was doing LMAO

Oh well, more room for actual veggies!
    TY for the responses 🦋

You can eat the leaves, but boil and rinse twice. The root is medicinal. The berries are poisonous. It’s a wonderful plant and quite beautiful.

On the upside the stems ain’t red yet, still good to eat! Gotta boil and rinse em 2 or 3 times tho!
