Had lunch at the brand new Susie's restaurant on College just west of Euclid. It features a classic diner inspired menu with some Asian twists. Note, this isn’t at all a cha chaan teng Hong Kong style cafe. They have straight up versions of things like pancakes and steak & eggs. But the Asian touches are in things like the yuzu aioli that accompany their pigs in a blanket. Lots of enticing options.
Decided to split three items with a friend. The filet-o-shrimp sandwich ($18) was my favourite. The shrimp patty reminded me of the shrimp paste used to make a Cantonese crab claw ball. Great spin on the McD version. The mapo frito pie ($15) had a generous amount of spicy beef chili nestled inside on top of Frito chips and served in the bag just like the OG version. And for something “healthy“ got the Tokyo Caesar salad ($15) that’s dressed with a miso-based dressing. Everything was delicious and loved the fun vibes.
Although my friend had to get back to work, I had to stay for dessert when I saw banana pudding ($12) was on the menu. Plenty of bananas and custard layered under whipped cream and speculoos crumbles. Sooo goood. And left soooo stuffed.
Definitely want to come back soon to try their tuna melt, chopped cheese, General Tso wings, malted milkshake ….
