BEAUMONT — The St. Michael Mediterranean Festival made a triumphant return to Beaumont after being canceled last year. The event, which celebrates Middle Eastern and Hellenic culture, builds on the tradition of the St. Michael’s Syrian Dinner, first served in 1909.
The free festival featured a variety of Greek and Mediterranean cuisine, music, dancers, and a children’s area with face painting and inflatables.
Raquel Haddad, the volunteer coordinator, said, “Whenever St. Michael’s was first founded, it was because there was predominantly a Middle Eastern Orthodox community. We’re trying to continue that legacy and share that tradition. Being able to interact with all the members of our community from different walks of life and cultures, it’s a really beautiful thing because we have a lot to offer here in Beaumont. We’re just glad to be part of that.”
