TLDR – nordic inspired, flavorful, California cuisine would return. I went in with slightly low expectations as some nordic-inspired restaurants can be a bit light on flavor, but I was pleasantly surprised. The 2 stars is definitely warranted. I would skip the caviar next time, but was very pleased overall.
Food Hits – from the small bites, to the seafood (lots of hits), mains, and desserts, I was impressed and here are few bites that are noteworthy:
- venison, unripe blueberries was a great bite, the tartness and freshness of the berries contrasted nicely.
- halibut, fermented root veggies, was one of the nicest bites and very well balanced
- black cod – again, these chefs know fish. So umami, well cooked and flavorful
- Sprouted and toasted buckwheat with ramps, and morels was a perfect main
- Duck – usually I don't like duck – every fine dining spot fawns over "Liberty farms duck" etc…. hard pass, this "Duclair Duck" from Oz Family Farm blows Liberty out of the water and despite being full at this point, I was really enjoying the duck.
- Fermented pear juice with rhubarb and cream was a perfect palate cleaner. It had acidity, it had multiple temperatures and textures. Perfection.
Service was good and servers/chefs were friendly and engaging. Good music and ambiance.
Will return and def recommend.
