Shoutout to the Man u/sid_loves_wine for suggesting this bottle at auction.
Opening the nose with aromas of dark cherries, earth, and deep mushroom, this wine also reveals some vibrant red fruit, strawberry and a subtle touch of cranberry. Tertiary notes are beginning to emerge, gradually enveloping the fruit profile with savory depth.
The acidity is still lively right out of the glass. It’s bright and a bit tart, with a slight volatility on the finish. After a short rest and some swirling, the volatile acidity dissipates, allowing the wine to settle.
On the palate, it has that signature weightless Pinot character, light on its feet, yet mouth coating with a fine, powdery tannin structure. The silky red fruits unfold gracefully, carried by a porcelain texture. There’s a harmony of savoury tones and integrated fruit, with the secondary and tertiary elements in balance.
With time in the glass, the wine hits its stride. Perfectly ripe red fruits meet well balanced acidity, and the texture turns smooth and refined, gently embracing the fruit. It remains light but flavourful, juicy and inviting. While it may lack a touch of complexity, its charm lies in its drinkability and the subtle lift of white pepper on the finish.
