Hi everyone, first time posting in this sub. I’ve had my Weber Spirit 210 since 2010. In that time I have lived ~1 mile from the Pacific Ocean, and then in a dry, arid part of SoCal, and now the Midwest.
What is the best method of getting rust off the top grates?
Is there any way to save the interior of the hood? It’s peeling very badly.
I know the flavor bars need to be replaced, but at this point, 15 years after purchase, is that even worth it?
Thank you in advance!

Reach out to Weber . They warrantied all those items for me . Or just buy new . Worth it .as far as the peeling . It is grease not paint
Looks mint.
That isn’t peeling on the interior of the hood. That is likely creosote or other ash like substance from burning/cooking. You should be able to scrape it off with a plastic paint scraper.
Needs a good deep cleaning, new flavorizer bars, and some fatty meats! And it should be good for another 15+ years.
You can ball up a piece of aluminum foil and use it to scrape the grates best you can. Then get a paper towel with some oil and wipe them down and send it.
Scrape the hood. Put something underneath to catch all the junk and send it.
Flavor bars are a lot cheaper than a new grill.
It honestly doesn’t look bad for living where you have. It’s definitely worth saving.
I guess will you ever use the warming tray? I never did when I had that same grill for 10 years.
Bar keeper’s friend, helps with rust. Scrub daddies don’t scratch. Orange degreaser, then let it burn a while to cook off any residue from cooking surfaces!
This is my grill! Going strong since ‘09 and looks about the same condition. Just got some new flavorizer bars, which last ~5 years or so.
I’ve had to replace just about every component including the burner tubes (rusted out), ignition (rusted out), and flavorizer bars. The body and grates are mint.
Clean it up and you’ll find all replacement parts online. Enjoy!
Not bad at all. I would take a crack at it.
Honestly?
She looks damn good.
As others have said, the flaking inside the lid is buildup from cooking, not paint. Wipe off the loose stuff, hit the whole inside with grill cleaner. New flavorizer bars are not that expensive, and the grates look great to me. Some stainless steel cleaner to wipe down the side tables, and no reason you shouldn’t get another 10 years out of it.
Unless, of course, you’re looking for a reason to upgrade to a Genesis or Summit. In which case, she’s beyond all hope, set her on the curb for some poor sap to pick up and salvage, and buy yourself a new toy 🙂
clean your grates and cook.
wtf happened to the top
It’s not in bad shape, but I wouldn’t spend a lot of money to refurbish a 2 burner grill.
I had a similar model for about 10 years. The pedestal rusted out, and a wheel fell off. I just propped it up with a brick and uses it for another year. I found a 3 burner Genesis on marketplace for $200 and have been using it for 2-3 years now. If I were you, I would keep an eye out for a used Genesis. People get rid of them all the time. I liked my spirit, but the Genesis is definitely a level up.
New Weber flavorizer bars are $65-lots of knockoffs cheaper. I just replaced mine after 10 years- same grill. Clean the grates as best you can- replacements from Weber are $100!
My igniter went out- had to replace the battery- had to look up the manual on line to figure that out. Also replaced my regulator hose. Burner elements were ok- checked them when replacing flavorizer bars. I need to remind myself to check the drippings pan. I’d say it’s pretty solid.
Replace the grates and flavor bars If burners are rusty replace them as well. Spray the thing inside and out with super clean from castrol and pressure wash it to remove all the crud and it will be like the day you bought it
I’m rebuilding a Genesis 310 side burner that makes that one look like showroom condition.
