Got there about 10am, wait to get in once open was maybe 30-45 mins. Service was great, food was just ok. The sides were honestly better than the meat; Short Rib was the best meat that I had there, pork belly was tasty, skipped the lamb (probably should have tried that over the tri tip), brisket and turkey was decent but not mind blowing, pork rib and tri tip i took a few bites and passed. Sides were the star of this visit; scalloped potatoes were amazing (polished that off easily), mac & cheese and the potato salad were both very solid, chorizo corn grits were decent, and the tortillas were a pleasant surprise and great alternative to bread. Dessert of strawberry tres leches rice pudding was pretty good too.
After living here for three years and finally checking out the hype, I was honestly disappointed. For the wait and the price I’d rather go to Stiles Switch or make the drive to my all time favorite Barbs (I still dream of those pork ribs). To each their own, but I probably won’t return. I’ll try Leroy & Lewis, Franklin, or La Barbecue to see if they can dethrone Barbs as the top of my BBQ pantheon.
