I love you funny vegetable man.
Try corn instead
Nice now question… topsy-turvy tomatoes over the top of another tomatoe plant intertwine them the topsy-turvy one holds the other up trip appropriately will this work well? Potential problems?
I don't eat peas or beans.
Heres a cool tip from the native American people. Grow corn or maze in between your climbers. Plant the corn/maze a few weeks to a month before. Then the climbers can climb the stalks. Bonus points if you plant pumpkin/squash/zucchini around the outside so it can form a mat that helps keeps pests an weeds out and shades the soil to retain water better. This is called the 3 sisters. ๐
You are lucky your beans without Japanese beetle damage!
I like how you remove trellis after season has ended. Far too many leave up their gear and it looks creepy in the winter months
This is timely. I just planted 36 pea seedlings! Iโll be sure to use the correct trellis for them. Thanks!
My mom used to use some spare cattle fence panels for the beens, and at the end of the year, the panels got thrown on top of a bonfire to burn off the dried, dead vines. Benefit of having a huge garden on a livestock farm, I guess! With the amount of beans she grew, it was less labor to build a fence every year. The method in this video looks much more manageable for a smaller, in-town garden!
Thatโs the main thing I hate having to worry about getting thing down at the end of the season
thank u thank u thank u
โฆ thank you. I HATE cleaning up beans at the end of the season. I donโt even eat the things, I hate them- I grow them for my mom, who loves them. This will be a huge help. ๐
THANK YOU SO MUCH, i trelaced my peas like beans and wondered why they all keep falling down, now i know how to trelace them, thanks.
Thank you ! I love vertical gardening
These are the tips that I value!
Very helpful, thank you๐๐ผ๐๐ผ
Great little short video! I too thought of using twine instead. But couldnt have thought of it without your explanation first. I also love doing craft and learning how to tie/knot stuff boyscout style. So I wont mind trying to put together a twine trellis OR I may get all tangled up in it ๐ Either way I really like this content. Thank you for sharing.
I dream to grow peas, coz I love them so much. But I live in uae๐ข climate here not good
And for this very reason, why I use steel hog fencing for both
Great tips but I utterly reject your concept that if it takes extra time to remove the beans at the end of the season the value of growing them is zero. We arenโt professional farmers and donโt need to keep to a capitalist mentality. They still have value just for our enjoyment of growing them.
Perfect timing for my beans.
Say what? I think what you have to say might be viable but something about your delivery is so obscure that I donโt understand what youโre saying. so, what are you saying?
Is it okay to start beans and peas in cells then transplant? I know some plants don't like that.
Thanks for the reminder to explain the difference between bush green beans and trellising ones to my grandma ๐ค๐ผ๐
If you use hog panels for both, you can let the plant wither and dry and then burn the whole thing
Pro Tip: Dip the bottoms of your upright poles, the portion that sticks into the ground, in Tar Roof Coating… or my favorite: Aluminized Roof Coating. It matches the galvanized poles. ๐
Aaannnddd Wha-lah!
No more rusting or galvanic action.
Great idea, didn't know the after part ๐
My dad always planted the beans next to the corn โค they climb up the corn perfectly
Wish i knew this
Dumb question. "Beans" – are these green beans? Shelled pintos? ??
New gardener here. This year will be my first time growing peas and beans. I was about to plant peas and beans together on a chicken wire trellis (provided by our community garden) this week. You saved me!
What are the posts for your trellis called?
How high is a trellis for beans? 4โ? 5โ? Thanks, Tony.
Learned this lesson this year when cleaning up my beans ๐
๐คฏ reusing my bean trellis! It is always a nightmare. Thank you! To the point, good visuals, & helpful from start to finish!
Love this ๐

Ah, the video that I didn't know that I NEEDED. Growing beans for the firdst time this year, so this video came in the nick of time, thanks!
I'm glad I came across this post today. My peas have popped. I will add horizontal elements to my pea trellising
I have a tall tree in my backyard is it a bad idea to tie twine in a teepee fashion to the tree and let the vines run up them? Seems like an easy cost effective way to let them grown as they should
What is the trellis made of ?
What about green beans (bush)? Will need the same method? I also have bean blue lake 274. Hope to hear back. Thanks!
what are these clips called that he is using on top to hold the peas trellis?
Ugh ! Thank you ๐!! I was thinking about that today โฆ you just took the guess work out of it ๐
Fantastic!!
Excellent. I removed last years beans from a trellis network and it was a diabolical nightmare. Live and learn.
How is it that after watching countless gardening vids over the last 5,6 yrs; I've NEVER heard this discussed?
That's amazing. Thanks for the tips!
Ever heard of the 3 sisters method?? Corn, beans, and squash growing in harmony
