Chateau de Pibarnon Bandol Rouge 2003, Provence, France
Dark ruby in color with a wide brick rim.
Beautiful nose of raspberries, cherries, currants, plums, licorice, chocolates, herbs, spices, earth, light vegetables, tobacco leaf and peppercorn.
Medium plus in body with medium acidity.
Dry on the palate with blueberries, black plums, cooked cherries, light oak, licorice, chocolates, herbs, spices, earth, light vegetables, tobacco leaf, coffee and black pepper.
Long finish with round tannins and cherries.
This 22 year old Mourvèdre from Bandol still feels fresh and engaging. Elegant, and starting to peak now. Well balanced and rich. Spicy and entertaining.
A gorgeous wine that will continue to drink nicely in the next 10 years.
Good right out of the bottle and a great sipping wine. Fruit forward, complex and interesting.
A blend of 90% Mourvèdre and 10% Grenache. Aged in large French oak barrels for 20 months.
14% alcohol by volume.
95 points.
$100.

I had the 2019 recently and it was stunning but a bit tannic in its youth. Your description of the 2003 makes my mouth water 😅 Seems I need to do go and buy some to hold.

I have a few Domaine Tempier Bandol Rouge from 2021 and 2022 that I’m fighting the urge to crack into. This review will help me wait! Sounds amazing – I will need to look for this producer
