Just got finished putting it together. Now I gotta figure out what to do first. Any suggestions for a first time pellet grill owner?

Hey! It looks like you posted an image!

If this is a photo of one of your cooks, maybe share the recipe and techniques
used, as it’s almost guaranteed one of the first questions you will be asked!

    *What seasoning did you use?

*How long did you cook it, and at what temperature?

*Did you use any special tricks or techniques?

    Traeger on!

Smoked hamburgers. Make your own patty’s and smoke them 180 degrees. It’s cheap and hard to screw up. Plan for at least 2 hours. You can always turn up the heat

Congrats! Just upgraded my Silverton 620 to a Woodridge Pro and I take delivery tomorrow! Thawing out a brisket for its first cook!

Congrats on the new smoker! The first thing I did with mine was a “burn-off” – run it empty at high temp for a bit to get rid of any factory gunk or oils. After that, chicken thighs or wings are a great first cook!

Load up youtube and check out Meat Church. Matt Pittman cooks a lot of his recipes on Traeger models. Every recipe I’ve made has turned out perfect the first time on my Ironwood XL.

    First timer tips:

    1) Use a kitty litter scoop when loading pellets – it will cut down the dust in the hopper which can cause issues. Also, Costco Kirkland pellets are super cheap and get the job done. Assuming you go to Costco, look for extra wide foil, and pick up some foil pans. I also get takeout containers so my family can take some bbq home when doing big cookouts

    2) Get an instant read thermometer (recommend thermopen one). Traeger wired probes can be off by 10 degrees and the wirless ones by 5 or so. (I’ve used the Traeger wired, and Meater X’s to get an idea where the temp is at, then use my Thermopen for the correct temp

    3) Get a plastic putty knife for scraping the drip tray

    4) Get a shop vac (portable) for cleaning your traeger. You should be doing a deep clean after 8-12hrs of cooking or 3 cooks.

    5) Learn how to spatchcock a chicken – I love to make whole chickens (3 pack from costco is like 35 CAD). It also helps when smoking a turkey (recommend Maple Bourbon Spatchcock Turkey recipe from Meat Church)
