The grates were dirty and a little bit rusty. I decided to put them in vinegar for 48h and then just cleaned them with a brush. After they got dry this was the result. Should I stop using them or am I safe? 😀

Nope. They’re not porcelain anymore but can be seasoned like any carbon steel. Heat them up and oil them, repeat over and over and you’ll have seasoned steel grates. Just like seasoning a new steel griddle.

You de-porcelained them, but if they already had rust on them then that wasn’t from the vinegar. Clean them up, season them with oil, and you should be good to go. I can only imagine having bits of porcelain sticking to your food isn’t great (no pun intended) so make sure you’ve gotten it all off.

  3. Well, now I’m curious, what is the best way to clean porcelain grates?
